Railway system

The railway from Haiphong transports a large number of goods and passengers from Haiphong to theSsouthern and Northern provinces. This railway is connected with Nanning (China) through Lang Son and Kunming (China) through Lao Cai.

102 km long railway starts from Gia Lam railway station to Haiphong railway station is used for transporting passengers and goods; passing through Hai Duong, Hung Yen (almost parallel to National Highway No. 5), and exploiting passengers to Long Bien and Hanoi railway stations and some cargo routes to Lao Cai and Southern provinces.

In the city, there are three specialized railway lines linking Hanoi-Haiphong with port areas along the Cam River from the Vat Cach port to Chua Ve port. The passage through Haiphong is 24.4 km long and has 4 terminals: Haiphong, Thuong Ly, Vat Cach and Du Nghia railway stations. As the railway is located through the center of the city, therefore there are 211 road crossings, of which only 12 crossroads have barriers, 4 crossroads with automatic warning, 17 crossroads with signboards, and the remaining of 178 crossroads are people created ones.
