Along with Vietnam UNESCO national committee and the ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Haiphong city is actively completing dossiers to submit the UNESCO world heritage center for the nomination of ” Ha Long Bay- Cat Ba Archipelago” as the world’s new natural heritage in 2023 with 4 criteria of aesthetics, geomorphology, ecosystem diversity and species diversity.
Cat Ba archipelago, which belongs to Cat Hai island district, is a complex of more than 360 islands, including Cat Ba island. It’s in the south of Ha Long Bay and about 30 kilometers from the center of Haiphong. This place has great biodiversity, geology, natural landscape and is also a tourist site of the city. Cat Ba archipelago has been recognized by UNESCO as the World Biosphere Reserve since 2004. In 2013, Cat Ba archipelago was ranked as a special national. In 2020, Lan Ha Bay, which surrounds Cat Ba archipelago has become one of the 46 most beautiful bays in the world. Currently, Haiphong city is having a promotion plan to make Cat Ba archipelago, extending to Ha Long Bay, become a world natural heritage by 2023.
