Project To Establish Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone

On December 18th afternoon, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority organized a conference to report on the overall planning, design, and project to establish a coastal economic zone in the south of Hai Phong City. Mr. Le Tien Chau, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Hai Phong Party Committee, Head of Hai Phong National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of Hai Phong Party Committee, Chairman of the City People’s Committee; Mr. Le Trung Kien, member of the Standing Party Committee, Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority attended this event.

The attendees to the conference grasped the reports made by Haiphong Economic Zone Authority, representatives of Omgeving consultants on the project’s necessity and implementation process, as well as the master planning and design for the southern coastal economic zone of Hai Phong. The project to establish Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone aims to build the planned area from a mainly rural area into an ecological, circular, dynamic, and sustainable economic zone with a multimodal connection center, smart industrial network, modern and dynamic urban – service system while still respecting cultural identity and connection to the regions. The project is implemented in part of Do Son district and parts of such districts as An Lao, Kien Thuy, Tien Lang, and Vinh Bao, with an area of 20,000 hectares.

Speaking at the Conference, Hai Phong City’s Party Secretary Le Tien Chau expressed fundamental agreement with the orientation of building a green, circular economic zone to enhance people’s living values according to the world’s development trend and the government’s commitment regarding COP 20’s net-zero objective. The secretary recommended that during the project development process, it is necessary to comply strictly with the Central construction planning, refer to models of economic and commercial zones around the world, and ensure a multi-faceted balance of green and sustainable development. Furthermore, the study proposes specific policy mechanisms to develop economic zones following the stated purposes to attract more investment./.
