PROJECT OF NAMING SOME STREETS AND PUBLIC WORKS

Since August 1, decree No.01/2020 of Haiphong people’s council on naming some streets and public works in Haiphong has been enforced. One of the outstanding highlights of this decree is that some works have new names, different from the normal names usually called by the people.

Many roads and works have new names to create connections both geographically and culturally. For example Hoang Van Thu bridge is connected to Hoang Van Thu street at one end and other end connected to Do Muoi street in Thuy Nguyen district. The main road of Bac Song Cam new urban area is named Do Muoi – former secretary of Haiphong party committee, former general secretary of the Vietnamese central party committee. This aims to honor his contributions to the national construction and protection cause of Vietnam in general and Haiphong in particular. The road crosses Do Muoi street is named after the former secretary of Haiphong party committee Tran Kien.

Cau Rao 2 in Le Chan district with one end is Pham Van Dong street in Duong Kinh district has the new name of Vo Nguyen Giap bridge. This bridge directly connects to Vo Nguyen Giap road, which is one of the road being newly named in this phase. Vo Nguyen Giap road crosses with Bui Vien road. One end of Vo Nguyen Giap road is Nguyen Van Linh overpass.

The old Quay bridge is named as Tam Bac bridge. It is adjacent to Tam Ky park which is built on the old Tam Bac bus station. The new park on the port football ground and Rong Bien park now has a new name of To Huu park. Many other works in Hai An, Kien An, Tien Lang, Vinh Bao, An Duong also have new names.

Now these works have been stuck new name plates. In the coming time, functional agencies and relevant localities will propagate the people about the meanings of these roads and public works./.
