INT’L VISITORS TO VIETNAM PLUNGES 66.6% IN 8 MONTHS

Over the past time, as Vietnam had to close borders to prevent the pandemic from spreading, the number of international visitors to the country in 8 months reduced 66.6% over the same period.

In details, from 2015-2019, the number of tourists saw a year – on year increase. However, in 8 months of 2020, the number of international visitors to Vietnam fell sharply, only reached 3.8 million people and was only 1/3 of that in the same period last year. The number of visitors by airway hit over 3 million, down 65.7%, by road 580 thousand, down 74.1%, seaway 144 thousand, down 15.9%.

In the first 8 months, visitors from Asia reached 2.76 million, down 68.8%, from EU 0.67 million, down 54.8%, from America 0.23 million, down 65.3%, from Oceania 0.1 million, down 65.4%, Africa 0.01 million, down 59.8%.

According to the general department of statistics, turnover from tourism and traveling in first 8 months was estimated at 13.1 thousand billion vnd, down 54.4% over the same period. Some localities saw sharp decrease in travelling tourism, in which Haiphong saw a plunge of 38%./.
