HREE BREAKTHROUGH ORIENTATIONS IN DEVELOPING HAIPHONG URBAN SPACE

The urban space structure is founded on the proper identification of urban development driving forces, formulated from macroscopic thoughts and visions. Over the past 5 years, this vision and driving force has been planned for a new, bright, green-clean-beautiful, civilized and modern urban future, bearing the features of a regional center and association. Three breakthrough orientations for urban space of Haiphong have been clearly identified but still bearing specific features of the Red Flamboyant city, turning Haiphong into the most dynamic urban city in the North.

Among 3 breakthrough orientations, the Northern plan is based on Cam river with the core urban area, VSIP urban and industrial park, Vu Yen island recreation, housing and eco-park area in Thuy Nguyen district which is invested by Vingroup with the total investment capital of more than one billion USD, of which VinWonder is promising to become the most modern park of its kind in the North. Especially, North Cam river new urban area which is underway is the central area, connecting the motive powers for development of Haiphong, including Dinh Vu Cat Hai economic zone and the Southern part of Cam River.

To Southwest of Haiphong, the housing and new urban area development projects along Pham Van Dong and Vo Nguyen Giap routes have been executed in the districts of Le Chan, Duong Kinh, Do Son, including Aeon Mall, Chuo hotel, Vinmec, Vinhome Marina luxury urban area…Alongside, WorldBank route has been completed in 2020, Ho Sen – Cau Rao II project is being promptly executed, new Rao bridge is nearing commencement…All are creating a strong connectivity between this region and other urban axes, turning this region into a vibrant hub of Haiphong city.

Another direction that lures investment of the city is the development towards Southeast. The Vietnam’s longest sea-crossing bridge connecting Haiphong – Cat Hai, the axial route of Dinh Vu – Cat Hai – Cat Ba has become the most dynamic development orientation with the international deep water port system. Vinfast Auto Manufacturing Complex of Vingroup has generated a new and modern industrial ecosystem at international level in Cat Hai district. In 2020, the tourism development project takes a longer step with the inaugural of cable-car system from Cat Hai island to Cat Ba of Sun Group and the 5-star resort and hotel complex of Flamingo group. These foundations have created an impetus to develop the green, sustainable and modern eco-city towards the sea. Over the past 5 years, the urban space of Haiphong has been continuously expanded towards 3 breakthrough orientations. The urban image of Haiphong is more and more civilized and modern, ranked the 4^th nationwide for first-class urban city criteria, the urbanization rate reached 46.73%, which is 1.4 fold higher than the country’s average of 33.40%./.
