– On the morning of November 23, Hai Phong Drainage Company Limited, Hai Phong Department of Construction and Water and Sewer Bureau, City of Kitakyushu (Japan) jointly organized a conference to summarize technical cooperation activities on drainage between Kitakyushu city, Japan and Hai Phong city (period of 2017-2023).

Among the top in the country in terms of urbanization speed while drainage infrastructure has not been invested adequately and the impact of climate change are big challenges for Hai Phong’s drainage industry. Over the past 10 years, Japan’s support has significantly changed the ability to manage and operate the system along with a clear change in people’s awareness.

“Supporting human resource development; Improving the capacity to operate and maintain drainage systems, wastewater treatment plants and flood response capacity”, is the content of 3 phases of cooperation between Hai Phong city and the Water and Sewer Bureau, City of Kitakyushu from 2012 to present. At each stage, Japan develops specific plans and action roadmaps to effectively support Hai Phong city.

Through 3 stages, Water and Sewer Bureau, City of Kitakyushu has completed drafting a set of management and operation guidelines for Vinh Niem wastewater treatment plant to be able to operate the plant in a stable and highly efficient manner. At the same time, training to respond to floods with the participation of a large number of people is aimed at raising awareness of coping with natural disasters and minimizing damage to people and property. On the basis of the twin cities of the two cities, Water and Sewer Bureau, City of Kitakyushu will continue to implement cooperative activities to significantly improve the drainage field of Hai Phong city in the coming time.

At the conference summarizing technical cooperation activities on drainage between Kitakyushu City, Japan and Hai Phong City (period 2017-2023), the two parties continued to plan cooperation contents in the coming time, together analyze and clarify the current situation, urgent and long-term solutions, apply science and technology, give priority to the field of storm water drainage, establish a mechanism to operate a flood control center… to thoroughly solve the drainage in Hai Phong.
