30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

This morning, at Haiphong University, Haiphong Peace Committee coordinated with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the city’s Friendship Associations Union held the 38^th anniversary of the International Day of Peace (Sep. 21).

Attending the ceremony was Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia, Standing Deputy Secretary of Haiphong Party Committee, Head of Haiphong National Assembly delegation, Chairwoman of Haiphong Friendship Associations Union and leaders of Vietnam’s Peace Committee. The International Day of Peace or the World Peace Day was initiated by the United Nations in 1981 and officially celebrated in Sep. 1982. By now, the peace protection has been developed to many of its facets, attached the peace maintenance to contribution of human resources to prevent conflicts. This year, the theme for the 2019 International Day of Peace is “Climate Action for Peace”, appealing for the hand-joining of the community for a greener and more equal world. The city’s Peace Committee called for the implementation of sustainable development goals in period 2015-2020, including defending the sovereignty by peace measures; steadily pursuing the standpoint and ideology before the hostile forces, joining hands to protect and help the vulnerable and preventing the violence…With this meaning, right at the ceremony, the Organizing Board launched the program “Gathering signatures in support of the approval for The Treaty of the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons for Peace launched by Mayores For Peace and presented gifts for Agent Orange victims and needy students with excellent study results./.
