VIETNAM’S CARGO THROUGHPUT SHARPLY INCREASES

In the first 2 months of 2021, in spite of the damaging effects of Covid-19, the total cargo throughput of Vietnam increased 11% over the same period 2020.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Bureau, under the Ministry of Transport, the container cargoes through Vietnam’s ports in January rose by 28% over the same period 2020. This is the highest figure recorded in the recent years. As for the representative of Vietnam’s logistics service enterprises association, in late 2020 and early 2021, apart from the impacts of Covid-19, the sea-going cargoes output was affected by the deficiency of space on boards and empty containers, hence, the Vietnam’s export market in particular and the cargo supply chain in the world has been delayed. However, with the timely hand-joining of functional agencies, the shipping lines have rotated empty containers to Vietnam to serve the packing of exported goods instead of piling containers to transport cargoes to China to take advantage of high profit, therefore, the impacts on the sea-going cargoes has been mitigated./.
