Workshop and investment promotion “Renewable energy in sustainable industrial zones”

On the morning of June 29, the Management Unit of Hai Phong Economic Zone in collaboration with the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sao Do Investment Group Joint Stock Company organized a workshop and investment promotion “Renewable energy in sustainable industrial zones”. Mr. Le Trung Kien, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Unit chaired the workshop. Attending the seminar, Mr. Harry Rawicz-Szczerbo – Head of Trade and Investment Department, Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland;

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Le Trung Kien, the Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Unit, affirms that the development of renewable energy is an inevitable trend and a mandatory requirement of the current energy industry in Vietnam as well as worldwide. The recent United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), to which Vietnam is strongly committed, it has also set a target of achieving net emissions (the amount of harmful emissions released into the environment) equal to zero by the middle of this century.

According to Resolution 45 of the Politburo, Hai Phong city is determined to become a leading city in the country in the cause of industrialization and modernization; which has a modern, intelligent and sustainable development industry. With an area of 22,540 hectares, Dinh Vu – Cat Hai Economic Zone with total hectares is identified as a center of marine, multi-sector and multi-field economy of the North Coast region and the whole country, with outstanding preferential policies and mechanisms which have become the destination of many domestic and foreign investors.

Currently, with 13 industrial zones in operation, the city has attracted 633 projects, with a total investment of approximately 34.6 billion USD. Accumulated up to now, industrial zones and economic zones have attracted 438 foreign direct investment projects with total investment capital of 22.07 billion USD; attracting 195 domestic investment projects with total investment capital of 12.57 billion USD. Particularly, the non-tariff zone and Nam Dinh Vu I Industrial Zone have attracted 48 projects with total investment capital of 1.8 billion USD (including 19 FDI projects with total investment capital of 430.25 million USD and 29 DI projects with total investment capital of 31,927.69 billion VND).

In the period of 2021-2025, 10-12 new industrial zones are expected to be established with an area of nearly 6,000 hectares; expected to attract from 12-15 billion VND.

 

In the first 6 months of 2022, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Unit has continuously made efforts to improve the business investment environment, reform administrative procedures, flexibly and effectively implement the investment promotion program (successfully organized an Investment Promotion Conference with Korean enterprises, an Investment Promotion Conference with French enterprises and a dialogue conference, meeting with potential investors interested in investment environment of the city). The city’s investment attraction orientation is spearhead industries (electronic industry, high technology, automobile industry; construction; environmentally friendly industry, renewable energy industry, etc.), the city’s energy demand is very large, which is a mandatory factor to create a foundation for city development, especially in industrial development.

At the workshop, the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between the three parties was witnessed: Shire Oak International Group, Sao Do Investment Group Joint Stock Company, Nam Dinh Vu Electricity Trading Joint Stock Company (NDVESCO) in investing in renewable energy in Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Zone; commitment to green development orientation in Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Zone between Sao Do Investment Group Joint Stock Company and investors in the Industrial Zone.

The workshop opened up a sustainable future for Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Zone in particular and Hai Phong city in general on the deployment of renewable energy in industrial zones, bringing many benefits in the process of operation and business activities such as: Reducing power consumption, reducing CO2 emissions into the environment, taking advantage of environmentally friendly renewable energy sources and saving costs in the production process. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to promote and attract investors, especially projects in the field of renewable energy and projects using environmentally friendly energy sources.
