HAI PHONG DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND INVESTMENT
(Haiphong.gov.vn) – In the morning of May 28, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Thanh welcomed and worked with Mr. Afonso Vieira, Consul of Portugal in Ho Chi Minh City to visit and learn about the investment environment in Hai Phong city. Accompanied by Mr. Tiago Macedo, Chairman of the Vietnam – Portugal Chamber of Commerce.
In a warm and open atmosphere, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee – Nguyen Van Thanh informed the Consul of some outstanding features of the city as well as achievements in socio-economic development. The Vice Chairman said that Hai Phong was the locality with the largest Seaport in the North with more than 100 years of experience and had been named on the World’s maritime map; the city had all 5 types of transportation, including: road, inland waterway, airway, railway and sea; in recent years, Hai Phong had been considered as an attractive destination for many large Corporations and foreign investors… the city now had many incentive mechanisms to support businesses.
At the meeting, Mr. Afonso Vieira highly appreciated Hai Phong as a dynamic and developing city. He said that during this working visit to the city, the Delegation wanted to learn and promote cooperation in the fields of commerce, real estate investment environment, education, tourism and culture… in which Hai Phong is one of the most prioritized localities of the Vietnam – Portugal Chamber of Commerce. Emphasizing the positive developments in friendship and cooperation between the two countries, he also hoped that the two sides would strive to increase trade turnover from the current level of USD 350 million to USD 1 billion by 2020.

The Portuguese Consul sincerely thanked the good affection that the city leaders have given him, and affirmed that the visit and work that day would be a favorable opportunity to contribute to promoting the cooperation between the two sides, opening a new stage of development in relations between the two countries in general and Hai Phong city in particular.
